Basic Art introduces students to the beginning concepts of art including composition, 2 and 3-dimensional design, drawing, and color theory. Students explore with such mediums as charcoal, colored pencils, watercolor, pen and ink, monoprints, sculpture. Creative problem-solving and professional craftmanship are encouraged. Students are asked to keep a sketchbook for inspiration and are encouraged to participate in class discussion and critique. Some projects may require you to provide safety glasses, or smocks for your personal use. Bring your imagination and sense of humor! Welcome to a most fun and interesting class. Mrs. Dowd

Homework discussion, Tuesday 10-13, in class
The "Harris Burdick Mysteries" homework, posted on this website, will be discussed on Tuesday 10-13 during "A" Basic Art. If you have not yet handed in your assignment, this note is to remind you a printed copy is required in your hand at the beginning of class. Please come prepared to post your outline and tell us and read about your inspiration.  You are all making this a fun assignment.

Draw that chicken! In class observation and creativty assignment. Using the gumball toy hens, pencil and kneaded eraser, set up your still life: View angles, make decisions on composition (how much to include and where), put in shadows and horizon line, set a mood, draw a scene or find an expression, change the angle and do another drawing. Have fun.

Sample: Remember to squint to see the brightest highlight shapes and not detail. Find the darkest shadows, lightly outline both. Practice bringing your lines and fill tones to a clean edge. Use kneaded eraser or stump to make lighter lines recede and to blend shadow shapes...not sure? try it again remember to use observation to compare what you see and draw :)
